New York
New York - Day 2
So good they had to name it twice! Formerly a Dutch colony called New Amsterdam, New York retains some Dutch heritage in names like Haarlem and Bronx. New York City is in reality a collection of many neighbourhoods scattered among the city’s five boroughs - Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island - each exhibiting its own lifestyle. At its core is Manhattan, a densely populated borough that’s among the world’s major commercial, financial and cultural centers. Its iconic sites include skyscrapers such as the Empire State Building and sprawling Central Park. Broadway theatre is staged in neon-lit Times Square. Plenty to see and do in the city but we really only had 2 days and Linda stayed in bed with the flu for most of them, so I wandered Manhattan alone taking in as many tourist sights as possible.
