
BUNDALA NATIONAL PARK
Bundala National Park is an internationally important wintering ground for migratory water birds in Sri Lanka. Bundala harbors 197 species of birds, the highlight being the greater flamingo, which migrate in large flocks. The park covers approximately 6,000 hectares and has a landscape of marshes, lagoons, salt pans and forest. Freshwater ponds and small forests and wastelands alternate. From the dikes you have a beautiful view of the many water birds present. There is also a small population of elephants in the park, which are easy to spot through the open landscape. You can only visit the area by jeep.
