Krakow is a beautiful old town, fortunately spared the ravages of WW2 because it was the seat of the Nazi military governor of Poland. The old city walls were torn down in the nineteenth century and replaced by a ring of parks which contain hundreds of pigeons. At the centre is the old market square dominated by the cloth hall (now a market mainly selling amber) and two bell towers. By the river Vistula lies the Wawel Castle which has lovely gardens.We also took a night cruise on the river where millions of may flies are attracted to the lights.
